MercyVision (Ophthalmic Surgery)Project Goal: To reduce the prevalence of blindness/low vision due to cataract and pterygium, and to build capacity of the local eye care system to achieve 30% of the Vision 2020 goal of 7,500 cataract operations per year. Project Objectives: To provide specialized surgery for 2,250 people blind due to cataracts, 120 people blind due to pterygium, 120 people affected by strabismus and 40 people needing eviscerations/enucleations. To provide training to 2 local surgeons in cataract removal and 10 community eye care workers in ophthalmic care. To evaluate and treat 10,000 patients for basic eye disease. To raise awareness about basic eye health issue. To distribute 5,000 UV blocking sunglasses and 5,000 reading glasses. |

Orthopaedic Project (Orthopaedic Surgeries)Project Goal: To reduce the effects of neglected trauma and congenital conditions by providing specialized orthopaedic surgical treatment. Project Objectives: Provide specialized surgery for 115 people affected by orthopaedic conditions, including neglected trauma and childhood musculoskeletal conditions. Provide occupational or physical therapy to 115 patients on an inpatient and outpatient basis. Provide counseling to men, women, and children who are affected by orthopaedic conditions. |

Outlook of Hope (Reconstructive Surgery)Project Goal: To reduce the effects of neglected trauma, disease, and congenital conditions by providing specialized surgical treatment. Project Objectives: To provide specialized surgery for over 450 people affected by maxillofacial and plastic reconstructive conditions. To provide 50 cleft lip and/or palate repairs. To provide 50 inguinal hernia repairs. To provide counseling to men, women, and children who are affected by their adverse physical conditions. |

Hope Reborn -Vesico Vaginal Fistula (VVF) SurgeryProject Goal: To reduce the prevalence of VVF and RVF among women by providing specialized surgical treatment, training, and awareness. Project Objectives: Up to 100 women affected by obstetric fistula receive corrective surgery. Surgeons and obstetric nurses trained in VVF and RVF procedures and care to serve the need in Liberia. Women who are affected by VVF or RVF receive counseling. Community awareness raised about the issues causing obstructed labor and its effects through women’s meetings and other community forums. |

Obstetric Fistula ProgramProject Goal: To increase the quality of life for women with debilitating childbirth injuries through specialized surgical interventions and holistic care Project Objectives: Perform 500 surgical procedures for women suffering from childbirth-related injuries. Recruit 6 or more surgeons for surgical mentoring in the care of women with childbirth-related injuries.Continue ongoing training of 17 national nursing staff in skills required for pre- and post-operative childbirth injury care. Work with other agencies to promote VVF awareness and implement strategies for VVF sensitization. Oversee pilot project/cellular payphone enterprise.
